As the colloquium was focused on 'Sport and Games', my paper addressed the question of what type of game could be played with the riddles collected in the Exeter Book. Given the absence of solutions in the manuscript, I argued that the game could not be the usual one associated with riddles, with its implications of competition and status but rather an unresolved, meditative game.
