The Marketing group at RHUL has grown from three members in 2004 to ten with the appointments for 2008 of Professor Pauline Maclaran, Dr Alan Bradshaw and Mr Andrew Whalley as Teaching Fellow. Professor Maclaran and Dr Bradshaw bring their field-leading expertise in consumer culture research and theory to the group. Three members of the group who joined in recent years, Andreas Chatzidakis, Alex Reppel and Sameer Hosany, were awarded their PhDs this year and have already published papers based on their doctoral research. Other published research interests in the group include:
Funded research activity has included Professor Hackley’s involvement in an ESRC study into young people, identity and alcohol which gained national media attention in spring 2008, and Professor Maclaran’s seminar series on critical marketing, also funded by the ESRC. In 2010 Royal Holloway hosted the European Conference of the Association for Consumer Research and several members of the Marketing Group were involved in its organisation.
Inquiries for PhD supervision are welcome and candidates interested in submitting a research proposal are invited to review the research interests of colleagues on the 'researchers' tab above. In 2007/8 PhD candidates supervised by marketing group colleagues have obtained their doctorates in areas including: political marketing; product placement and cross-cultural consumer research; and cause-related marketing.
