Research interests
José-Rodrigo Córdoba-Pachón (MA, PhD, MBCS) is senior lecturer in technology and information management at the school of Management in Royal Holloway. His research work involves the systemic study of information systems and the development of sustainability practices in organisations through systemic thinking. His areas of interest include the critical sociology of information systems as a professional discipline; e-government evaluation and systems thinking for sustainability education. José-Rodrigo is the co-ordinator of the Technology and Governance Network (TGN), an international group of academics and practitioners who collaborate to develop ideas and methodological tools to explore the impact of information technologies in the emancipation of human beings.
During his academic career which began in 1997 José-Rodrigo has been grant holder of Colfuturo Foundation of Colombia to do his MA in management systems (with distinction), the University of Hull to do his PhD and the Economic and Social Research Council ESRC to do his post-doctoral studies. In 2003 he was nominated to the William Newman Award of the Academy of Management in the US for best paper based on a doctoral dissertation. He has been ranked among the top 100 researchers in the area of information systems between 2007 and 2010 in the Ventatesh ranking .
Prior to his academic career José-Rodrigo worked for a number of years as a software developer, project analyst and project manager of information technology projects at Fundación Social, Colombia's fifth biggest financial group.
José-Rodrigo's current teaching subjects include Management Information Systems (undergraduate level), the Networked Organisation and Complex Decision Making (postgraduate level). José-Rodrigo currently supervises a number of PhD students in the area of e-government. He also maintains a personal blog on the systemic study of information technology and contributes regularly to the blog of the technology and governance network.
José-Rodrigo is a member of the UK Chartered Institute of Information Technology and the UK Operational Research Society. He has been invited speaker at Universidad de los Andes, Universidad Javeriana, Universidad EAFIT and Universidad del Norte in Colombia; the Durban Institute of Technology in South Africa; Universitat Rovira I Virgili and Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena in Spain; and the Open University in the UK.
