Adam Ganz is Professor in the Department of Media Arts, Royal Holloway, University of London, and also active as professional screenwriter and director for radio film and television. His principal research interests focus on audiovisual narrative, with particular reference to the migration of audiovisual production processes to the digital, and on the TV development process and other forms of collaborative narrative including the collaboration between author and audience. He is also interested in performance, character and "believability".

He has collaborated with Documentary Director Marc Isaacs on two Feature DocFiction Films, The Filmmaker's House (2020) and This Blessed Plot (2023)

 in June 2023  Felix's Room which he wrote and co-directed with ScanLab Projects in a groundbreaking piece of spatial story storytelling was premiered at the Berliner Ensemble in collaboration with the Komische Oper Berlin, funded by the Kulturatiftung des Bundes as part of the SpielRäume! Initative.

It tells the story of Adam's Great grandfather, Felix Ganz and his second wife Erna in their room in a so-called Jewish House in the Kaiserstrasse in Mainz. 
It draws on the research of two different research projects, at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, and at Royal Holloway's Holocaust Research Centre of which Adam is an Associate Researcher

He is a Co-Investigator at the CoSTAR* National Lab for R&D in Creative Technology, a £51.1m investment by the UK Government in Applied Research to ensure the UK’s screen and performance industries have the research infrastructure and research and innovation skills to compete globally.

Previously he was head of the Writers Room at StoryFutures Academy where he helped to develop the work of dozens of writers in writing for immersive.

He executive produced for StoryFutures One Story Many Voices a creative collaboration with Imperial War Museum’s Second World War and Holocaust Partnership Programme (SWWHPP) working with writers including Michael Rosen, Amina Atiq and Nicola Baldwin.

His monograph Robert De Niro at Work: from Screenplay to Screen Performance (co-written with Professor Steven Price) and based on research done as a Harry Ransom Fellow at the Harry Ransom Center University of Texas at Austin was published  in 2020. This work was supporterd by the Robert De Niro Fellowship Endowment.

He served on the Executive of the Screenwriting Research Network until 2018 and was Convenor of the London Screenwriting Seminar supported by the Department of Media Arts and the Institute of English Studies.

He has published book chapters, articles and given a number of international conference papers as well as serving on the editorial advisory board of the Journal of Screenwriting (2010- ).
He edited a special edition of the Journal of screenwriting to commemorate 25 years of the Singing Detective and co-edited (withLlina Khatib) a special edition of the online journal Reconstruction . 2008)  He has also pursuedhis interest in digital narrative in an ongoing research project with Professor FionnMurtagh in Computer Science which has led to several joint publications, research applications- and widespread international press coverage.  His dramas for radio include The Chemistry Between Them ,(2014) The Gestapo Minutes (2013) -nominated for an Audio Drama Award for Best Single Drama,  Nuclear Reactions (BBC Radio 4 2010) and Listening to the Generals (BBC Radio 4 2009-repeated 2010)
For TV his work includes Murder Without Motive - (BBC1 1998 writer) and Pillow Talk  - (Channel 4 2005) director  as well as a number of short films including Threesome, 2000 (writer/director)  shown at festivals  including Telluride, Newport Rhode Island and Raindance and on Sky. Other films include Show Home, (2007-director)   Shiftwork,1993 (writer/director)   One Armed Bandits, (1990 -writer/director)  and One of Us, (1986- writer/director)
In addition he has developed screenplays for film and television with several major production companies and with every UK Channel and has a number of other projects in development with TV companies .
He also works as a script consultant and dramaturg.
